How do existing halls from the 1960s make the leap into the 21st century? 🚀
This was precisely the task our commercial and industrial construction team faced with a logistics hall from this period. Our client, Transportservice Küppers, wanted to meet the current tenant requirements for the mail order business.
For the approx. 3,500 m² hall, the dilapidated red tiled roof, including the tundish formwork, was replaced with 10 cm thick, red sandwich panels as an industrial roof. During the construction process with two stationary cranes 🏗️, the focus was on the weather measures. This was because no moisture was allowed to penetrate the roof surface or collar beam layer during the tenant’s ongoing logistics operations – we were able to guarantee this with prefabricated foils and hand-in-hand work 🤝 with the demolition contractor. The 30° roof pitch and the four valleys to adjacent transverse structures also made the work challenging.
At the second hall, just a few minutes’ drive away, the refurbishment of the very gently sloping roof, brickwork and floor was commissioned. The above-mentioned sandwich panels in the color silver-grey were used for the roof covering and the outer wall shell.
Here, we worked in two construction phases using a mobile crane to give the tenant the opportunity to create free space for relocation 📦 during ongoing operations for the floor renovation. For each construction phase, we connected the roof and exterior wall work after the steel fiber concrete slab had been created. This allowed us to make optimum use of the curing time.
In addition to the structural refurbishment, this 5,000 m² hall is now also visually enhanced with a red surrounding strip below the edge of the roof.
The team from our subsidiary MWM Metalltechnik Westmünsterland GmbH was deployed for the installation work on all wall and roof surfaces. This is another good example of our cross-company cooperation within the Terhalle Group, where a high level of reliability and production quality ✔️ are required.
We will be reporting on further projects involving our turnkey and part-turnkey renovation and new-build solutions for commercial and industrial halls, riding halls and agricultural halls in one of our next articles.
